Win keeps Faith Academy boys basketball hungry for more

The Faith Academy of Marble Falls boys basketball team beat Bryan Allen Academy 62-49 Nov. 28 to go to 3-1 on the season.
“We came out flat and didn’t really play our offense like we normally do and want to,” head coach Zakk Revelle said. “We made up for it in the second half. We made some adjustments defensively that helped us get a good lead.”
The Flames led by as many as 20 points. That allowed coaches to substitute and mix in different players.
The Rams had 28 rebounds, 10 assists, 6 steals and 5 blocks. Faith had 37 rebounds, 11 assists, 12 steals and 3 blocks.
Flame sophomore center Judah Phillips scored double digit points and rebounds, the coach said.
“Judah played really well,” he said.
Part of the reason why the Flames may not have been as mentality engaged at the beginning of the contest was because they knew the opponent and what to expect. Revelle credited Allen for playing well, especially at home, in challenging the Flames to pick up their intensity.
“We were in the same district for two years, and they didn’t beat us. We played in front of a crowd that didn’t want us to win,” he said. “We get everybody’s best shot, and we’re happy to. We were the better team that night for enough spurts. They played hard, too.”
He noted not all of his players made the trip. One was out because of illness.
“At the end of the day, we did what we were supposed to do,” the coach said. “The whole goal was to see what it was like to travel and play in Bryan on a school day. I’m proud of our young team for handling the road trip. The goal was accomplished. The No. 1 goal was to go and get experience and play in somebody else’s place in a high-stakes game.”
Revelle said his policy is not to talk to his players after a game. When he walked into the locker room, the players asked him to break the huddle.
And after a win, the Flames have a short dance party in the locker room. But not on Nov. 28.
“That’s the sign of what could be a really good team,” Revelle said. “They want to dominate, they want to do their jobs. And they have a willingness not to be satisfied early in the year. Can we continue to still get better regardless of what the scoreboard says? It was good overall.”
Faith will play in the Lorena Tournament Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 30-Dec. 2. They take on Jarrell at 10:30 a.m. and China Spring at 4:30 p.m., both on Thursday, and San Antonio Alamo Heights at 9 a.m. and Whitney at 3 p.m., both on Friday in pool play. Their last opponent and time on Saturday is to be determined.
